As part of the HLF funded ‘River Tees Rediscovered’ landscape partnership project Tees Archaeology are working with Professor Tony Pollard to investigate the medieval settlement of Eryholme. There are extensive medieval earthworks at Eryholme and this project will try to understand them better and link them to the documentary information that is available for the site.
The project provides an opportunity to take part in a geophysical survey and to explore the theories about the development and demise of the area. People can however just book for one element of the project and appropriate briefings and training will be provided.
This will take place at Eryholme on the 5th and 6th October. You do not need to attend on both days and attendance for half a day is acceptable. You should wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Because of the nature of the survey you should not have any metal objects on your clothing. You will need to bring food and drink. Further information will be supplied, to those who book, closer to the activity.
